Hauling away junk furniture

They were on time took away our sectional and were very pleasant. I would definitely use them again. They also were very careful about our walls. Not one scratch. I am going to recommend this company to everyone.

They don't show up.

Wanted them to quote on packing services for a move. Made an appointment (which they said was required for them to assess the packing needs), they gave me a 2-hour window of when they would show up. 2.5 hours in, nobody showed up or called. I called customer service, who said someone would call me back immediately with an update - didn't happen. 3 hours in, I called again, got the same story, that someone would call me back immediately. Never happened. 5.5 hours later, still nothing. I hired someone else to pack while I was waiting on them to keep their word, fortunately. The other company was able to quote over the phone and in writing via text/email. What a crazy amount of time I have wasted on this company, and I am quite mad about it.

Discrimination of the disabled

They belittled and accuse customers of crimes. The CEOs will not address ANY issue you may have.

Once your done with your move, youll never hear from them again.

VP in Orlando is unhinged and verbally acts customers. The owner will not address this because Amanda is his boss in the relationship.

Long-distance move from Florida to Kansas

Please do not use for moving.

I hate giving one star but I really don’t want anybody else to experience what we did. We moved from Florida to Kansas and we had college hunks load our truck and unload it on this end. We used a large trailer that was driven by ABF. The guys on the Kansas side opened the trailer and immediately commented on how the trailer was packed wrong. Boxes were not done properly and had heavy on top and light on bottom. Our furniture was not properly protected and majority of it was damaged. Our bed was so bad it wasn’t salvageable and we had to buy a new one. One box was so destroyed that the contents of it were not even near the box. I had heavy duty tubs with items broken and damaged inside of them. This was our third out of state move and by far the worst experience. Not only has college hunks not apologized they are willing to take zero responsibility. They claim it was the driver not their men. I stated that their men on this side said it was packed wrong but they still denied our claim. They also took a week just to respond to say they received the claim and then another month to say they denied it and another week to actually email us telling us that. I think they are probably great for hauling junk away or small jobs but I would never allow them to pack a truck. They are not properly trained as they claim to be.

Would not recommend this moving company at all.

I would never recommend this moving company. They severely damaged my late husband's desk when attempting to reassemble it. Screws missed their mark, causing damage, screws placed where they didn't even belong, "left over" screws found in a drawer. They are refusing to pay because the desk is made of particle board. I don't care what the desk is made of - shoddy workmanship by whoever attempted to assemble it is what caused the damage. The fact that it is particle board does not absolve them of responsibility.

Too much for too little.

My experience with College Hunks on both ends of my move was not good. They are not really College Hunks at all, just inexperienced laborers. The way my furnishings were packed created a lot of damage during the transport.Examples are:my Recliner was found bent over from the back sideways. Control boxes for my bed were both damaged, wires were severed. My Entertainment shelves were damaged, missing parts, Ironing Board was completely broken beyond repair, furniture was scrapped, If something was dropped during the offload he just walked over it til I asked him to pick it up. Spent time looking at his phone instead of helping. I believed I was supporting College kids or I would never had called them. False advertising, misleading the public.

WORST OF MY 10+ MOVES

Have moved 10 times and this was the absolute WORST moving experience that I have ever had. This company charges by the hour and sent me two guys the day of my move. They estimated my move to take 5-7 hours same day move when I called for the quote and gave me reasonable pricing which is the entire reason I selected them. The guys were early/on time which was great the day of the move. However, these guys were extremely young and very chatty asking me how much my rent was and personal questions about my life and then proceeding to talk to each other a ton instead of focusing on moving. I was growing very frustrated since I am paying by the hour. It took them 5 hours just to pack my one bedroom worth of stuff into the truck which was absolutely outrageous. I even provided them with a large blue bin to use to help move my stuff. I cannot imagine how long it would have taken them without that! I could lift more than both of these guys as a female. I then go to collect the bin from them to give back to my apartment at the truck and I see that my large entirely glass base floor lamp is just sitting in the back of the truck NOT WRAPPED WITH ANYTHING!! I asked the guys why it was uncovered. They said that they were out of blankets. I feel that was unacceptable so called the company now for the 3rd time to complain about everything. They then send another guy who was on the other side of the building to give them blankets but they could not find each other, so that took even more time. I drive to Tampa and wait for them. They finally arrive and it takes them another 4 hours to unload which it should have only taken 2 hours. All in all this move including drive time took around 14/15 hours when I was quoted 5-7. They way over charged me. I called multiple times and left multiple voicemails to complain and received no reply. I disputed the charge on my credit card. I am now going to take to every social media and online review website until I get a reply! This was completely unacceptable.

Wish I had seen the other reviews first!

I would not have hired College Hunks if I had seen the reviews on this website first! And I would still have my beautiful grey dresser. They destroyed the dresser. I think they dropped it and also put something heavy on top of it and scratched the top. One of the drawer slides was broken and the drawer would just fall out when opened. The BIG problem..... we were building a house and had to move everything into storage for a couple of months. We could not prove that the damage did not happen in the storage unit. Lesson learned. If you are reading this before you move, would find another mover!

Moving

I move pretty much every 2 years because of my job. Last 3 times I had the same furniture and didn’t buy anything new. I moved to the same apartment complex that I used to live at 2 years ago . Same floor. Never had any issues when moving (I was using a different moving company). All work used to be done by 3 people in 4 and a half hours. I had paid twice less for the service and had no damage to my furniture. This time i decided to use College Hunks as according to reviews they were supposed to be awesome and maybe charge less. Result: I was charged more than twice and had my new looking furniture terribly damaged. My bed looks like a piece of crap now. It got scratched all the way around. They never wrapped my bed even though it is a very expensive bed. It looks like people who work there have no clue what they are doing. My bed is missing bolts and some were loose. Some other pieces of furniture were missing bolts and now I have to fix everything myself. Cables that were used for my tv, couch, media center, massage chair and audio system were just piled up and nobody was gonna put them back the way they were plugged before. I had to ask the manager who was helping to unload the truck to help me with those cables. Those professionals "forgot" to bring my soundbar and my ladder from the truck. Fortunately I noticed that before they left. Oh, and their site won't let me post the review for some reason. Apparently you can't leave any negative reviews on their website. It was absolutely the worst and the most expensive moving service I have ever experienced. All they will tell you at the end is: "Unfortunately, anything can happen during moving". Their professionalism level is 0% Absolutely the worst moving company!!!

No response after damaging my wall

During a removal, a 1” hole was put in my wall. After 6-7 calls to the service line, they would say they have left a message and emailed the person in charge. I haven’t heard back from anyone at any time. I am told if the manager is unwilling to respond, there is nothing anyone can do but pay for my own repair.

This is the worst customer service I have encountered. They aren’t willing to follow through with fixing problems they caused.

Avoid at all costs.

Rip OFF

My 94 yr old Grandmother needed to move from her assisted living into a nursing home. We had one week to get her furniture and things removed from her assisted living facility. I needed a moving company to help me move just a few pieces of furniture from that place to my home (she can’t take anything with her to the nursing home ?). I live less than a mile from the facility so I went online to get a quote. They quickly called me to discuss the move. The lady was sweet as could be and very helpful, she kept telling me this would be a stress free move. I was quoted $457 for moving one dresser, two small chairs, two small tables, and a china hutch that held my grandma’s collection of angels. The only thing heavy was the dresser. The estimate which I received in writing stated “truck and travel fees included.”

I thought $457 was expensive but they were able to do it on short notice and she was so sweet so I booked it and paid a $159 deposit which would go towards the total cost.

The move went perfect, they wrapped the dresser in a blanket like thing to protect it, they wrapped cardboard around the hutch and taped it. We drove a few blocks to my home, unloaded and left. Next thing I notice I was charged $376 in addition to the $159 for a total of $535. That is $78 more than my estimate. I emailed the lady that helped me thinking the $159 would be refunded and my total was $376 since the move took half the time they had reserved and I moved less things than originally planned. I got a response from the lady that was no longer sweet saying I wouldn’t be refunded anything and the charges were accurate. They charged me $44 for fuel when I live less than a mile from the facility and 5 miles from their business location. Then I was charged $34 for supplies! What supplies?? The blanket that gets reused over and over? Or the cardboard? Maybe the tape? Because that was all there was! Again, these charges were never mentioned on the initial call and not in my estimate. When I see “truck and travel fees included in total cost” I’m assuming the gas was already figured in. No way should a one hour move on of a few items cost $535. She sent me a snarky email and could not tell me why I wasn’t given this info initially and she couldn’t explain what the supply charge entailed. This company nickels and dimes people and takes advantage of their customers. I will never recommend this company. The only good part was the two movers were nice, friendly guys…I’m sure they aren’t being paid what they are worth.

Worst Company Ever

I wish I could do a -5 Star. People impacted with the Hurricane should avoid this company all together. They only give you 10 days to check out all the damage the movers have done. I have several antique pieces that were destroyed, broken dishes, missing items and damaged picture frames.

I haven't even had time to unpack everything and the [EDIT] that called to "help" instructed me to look at the bill of lading that I only had 10 days to inspect everything. Since I had them move my stuff in on September 23rd, I am over my 10 days. I had to leave town two days later for work and a little thing called [NAME EDIT].

I moved in and then Fort Myers was hit by the hurricane. Luckily, I had no hurricane damage but without electricity and water, I wasn't worried about unpacking. Now they tell me that since I only had 10 days to report the items damaged/missing they aren't able to help.

Please.. If you have to move, find another company that won't take advantage of you during this difficult time of the Hurricane. The movers were good but office staff STINKS.

It's just DISGRACEFUL the way they treat their clients.

Excellent from first contact

I highly recommend this company. From the very first time I contacted them, they were very open with communication and follow up. I even got a discount for “Xpress“ because the two pieces of furniture were in my garage. The two guys that came to pick up the furniture were very courteous and polite. Everything was done within 15 minutes. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend!

Follow up to my previous review

Just wanted to again voice my frustrations with this move. Again, it was a 30 minute move and numerous items were destroyed. Our fridge was destroyed, which was $3,000.. we had insurance and they wouldn’t pay us for it!! Vizio 65” TV screen completely destroyed, washer scratched, other items including pictures, and decorations that we just had to throw out. In short do not use this moving company. They will destroy what you work so hard to have!!

Worst packing job I've ever seen

I've used College Hunks in the past to remove junk, and it was fine. But when I had them pack up our house for a move, it went horribly wrong to the point we had items damaged (before they were moved!), the packers smoked weed in multiple rooms of my house, and the packing was so bad we had to pay to have it all repacked, while having to delay our move as well. Items were crushed, or put into otherwise empty boxes with no packing materials whatsoever, including framed pictures that can't be replaced (see photos, all open boxes were exactly as I found them after the movers left). They even taped picture frames to boxes for some reason? The packers who repacked everything couldn't believe how bad a job had been done. The company originally offered us a refund, which never came through, and now they're saying they won't. We tried to call the corporate office, but they said they have zero control over franchises, so keep that in mind if you take a (huge) chance on this company!

Do not use in Macomb County, MI

Use the Macomb County location if you do not care at all about your walls. I just had my walls painted. The crew neglected to use padding to protect the walk ways. The crew neglected to lift the couch over the half wall and smashed it through, causing damage in 5 areas. The company tried to rectify by sending a repair vendor, who made it worse. I had to pay my own contractor to fix the damage and repaint. The kicker was on the day of (don't book them for a Sunday) the company tried to come early, several times. I wasn't available. Then at the scheduled time, the crew got held up. I was told a different crew would be on the way. I had a bad feeling, and communicated that I would prefer to wait for the initial crew scheduled. The secondary crew arrived and was not even the crew for junk removal. I asked the company to pay for the repair and was declined. I am confident this company pays a service to remove bad reviews from google. NOT 5 stars.

Overcharge

I was quoted $1622.25 by College Hunks aka Simmons moving of North Charleston SC. I was ready for the 8am arrival. They did say 8 - 10. Got there at 10:30. The estimate was for two men at 10.75 hours. They had three men and got done in 7.50 hours. Pretty good Time moving a 704 square foot apartment from third floor to third floor 212 miles away. Because they made such good time They decided I should pay them $ 3776.25! They have not returned my phone calls. I do not agree with the additional $1745.00 that they padded onto the final bill that they could not justify. Unfortunately the person that recommended them made the same move two weeks before me. If I had called him after his move he would have told me that they double charged him also and I would have used another moving company.

Horrible company bordering on unethical

If I could give zero stars I would. I contracted this company to move my mother with advanced cancer into an assisted living community. They showed up with half the crew needed (the second half showed up hours later), they took so long packing up a 1 story house that it was 5pm before they asked my exhausted mother to do a walk through. Every single room in the house had items left, trash everywhere and an entire storage area left untouched. I called the company to make it right, but they were UNAPOLOGETIC, didn't care I had to take ANOTHER DAY OFF WORK and they were going to CHARGE ME a flimsy discount rate to come out and fix their mistake. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Inexperienced employees and much destruction of property.

First of all, yes I did initial the lines they pointed out at the very time of the move. Now that I look back on it I was "railroaded" into it. My fault I trusted! The men they sent to put my things in storage obviously had no training or experience. When I moved my things out of storage furniture legs were put on my leather furniture which has put permanent dents in it. They put heavy boxes on a solid glass table and completely shattered it! They then told me they only pay by the pound for damage. When I told them that was not satisfactory they somehow found I still owed them $90.00 after all this time. If I refused I am sure they would have reported it to a credit bureau, I felt like it was blackmail!! Something needs to be done to protect we consumers from this happening to us. Where do I go from here? I would like to know who could help me to keep others from this. I have moved three times in four years and was cheated two out of three times! Help!

Avoid at All Cost!!

HORRIFIC! They scratched the floor of our newly built home, shattered our lamp, and tore our month old mattress. The movers are not trained professionally - they're full of it. We had a new mover who lifted the mattress by the straps when asked by us not to - and ripped it to pieces as well as puncturing a hole in the bottom. I don't understand why this mattress was not in a protective box or why these movers did not listen! When we notified them of the damages they refused to pay the full price to replace or fix these items. DO NOT USE THEM! It's a scam!

Edited in response to Andy Garcia's yelp reply:

Andy is trying to downplay the severity of our damage, when he himself never came to see the damage nor even had the common decency to give us a call. We have emails from him showing his lack of problem solving and frequent attempts to short change the excessive damages his movers caused to our brand new home and brand new mattress, for what was a very simple move. We moved from a two bedroom apartment to a four bedroom house, which was only 20 miles away.

The movers dragged our new mattress without putting any protective covering on it. They then picked it up from the straps, when my husband explicitly told them it would rip if they did so, and they ripped a strap completely off the new mattress. Then the movers took our new mattress out of their filthy truck and dragged it up our stairs, where the bottom was gashed on a railing. Because the movers did not use a mattress box or any protective covering, the material in the mattress is now displaced. A simple google search for how to move a mattress states how important it is to at least cover the mattress in plastic to keep it sanitary and free of bacteria and bugs, as well as to protect it.

The movers shattered a lamp, which was thrown into their truck with no protection whatsoever. They also chipped and dented a crank table that was only covered in plastic wrap and not secured down in their truck.

The movers deeply scratched our new hardwood floors, and when Andy insisted that we get an invoice for a quote, for which he offered us half of what the flooring guy required to fix the gash in the floor.

Andy tried to rectify the situation by constantly saying he can only pay us $.60 per pound of damaged items, but he even low balled us there by paying us less than that. When he saw this review, he emailed my husband saying he will not pay us unless we take the review down and never post a bad review about his franchise branch again, which was stupid and illegal. When my husband threatened to sue, Andy rolled over and said we could post what we wanted and he would cut a check for us for the very little he would agree to pay for our damages.

My husband will be sending the emails between him and Andy to the Better Business Bureau as well as to College Hunks corporate.

Do not trust this guy or his franchised branch of College Hunks. His franchised branch is probably a very poor reflection of the company as a whole, but there are far better options available. He claims to be doing 250-350 moves a month, so he must be doing something right, but the Better Business Bureau and his franchisor will be hearing about this mess that he caused.

I had CHunks out to clear construction debris, but not until I had an estimator out first to see exactly what they were hired to clean up. They arrived with 20% of the truck full even though I had agreed to a full truck, ($769), plus heavy load fee of $150 on top. They emptied the truck and when they returned, they were still completely unprepared and did not bring shovels, brooms or protective gear. They barely filled the truck 75% and when I told them they could fit 20 more shovels, (which I lent them), in they said they had sent a picture to their supervisor who said it was full enough.
They didn't sweep up, even with my broom, and even though they left a huge mess, and 40% of the materials, I was happy to see them go. Good riddance.
What a waste of money. These guys might want to move a sofa or mattress, or maybe some pillows, but they will not give you the effort needed to complete a moderately challenging job.
If the front line service employees have this "Just do enough to get by" attitude, they learned it from their management.
Don't trust College Hunks to keep their word.

Double the time, double the quote.

My 67 year of aunt hired this company to load and unload a 1-bedroom apartment in a moving truck we provided on a Thursday morning. She was quoted $658 plus taxes for the entire job. It would require a crew from Port Richey/St Pete to load and a crew at the new apartment near the Brandon/Plant City area to unload. On moving day, the loading crew showed up close to an hour late and took twice as long as quoted to load the truck. Due to this the unload crew would not be available as it was getting late in the day. This St Pete crew would now follow us for a one-hour drive, during rush hour, to Brandon to unload. The crew also stopped for a rest and refreshment break during that time. Unbeknownst to us, our Aunt was getting charged for this time. This was not part of the agreement. Fast forward to the new apartment. The crew took twice as long, as quoted, to unload the truck and lost pieces of a bed frame. The crew had to look through my aunt’s boxes/personal belongings for almost 45 minutes to find the bed frame pieces, with no success. I believe they left them in a parking at the first apartment. At the end of the day a crew member called his manager to discuss the dollar amount and total time it took them to do the job, as he saw it was an unfair price. The manager did not answer his phone. The crew member touched basis with the owner after about 10 minutes of trying, Ace was his name (727-422-2205), to discuss compensation or reimbursement for the bed frame. He said he would have a brand new one delivered to her apartment the next day (Friday). No attempt was ever made to have one delivered. In fact, my aunt and I left numerous messages on his phone days later. It is now Tuesday and he has never returned our phone calls. We can only imagine the owner has gone into hiding in an attempt to pay anything out. In frustration he wins for now. We will continue to elevate this until someone listens.
We hired this company based off of good reviews. I will say they are nothing but scam artists. Not only have they lost furniture pieces, they have charged my aunt almost double ($1,275 + tax) due to taking double the amount of time quoted. Due yourself a favor and find another company before hiring them. You will save yourself money and headache.

College Hunks = SCAM ARTISTS - STAY AWAY!!

A young man came to our home to look at what we wanted to move and we received an emailed estimate the following day. I agreed to use them (via email) because they had the best price by far, in fact, I didn't understand how they thought they could move us in just 4 hours but that was their estimate. Here's the scam..they give a low price just to get the job. When they arrive on the day of the move they want you to sign a NON-BINDING ESTIMATE which means they can charge you whatever they want regardless of what they told you in the original estimate. They handed me a bill for more than three times their original estimate and told me their mistake is my problem bc I signed a non-binding estimate. They were rude and hung up on me while I was disputing this with them. The man in charge of the crew quit his job while in my kitchen and said he was sick and tired of watching customers argue with them over this same issue and couldn't stand to watch customers get treated this way any longer.
